There has been no official explanation from the Samoa government on why frontline workers who had been quarantined at the Sheraton Resort at Mulifanua were released before the end of their 21 day quarantine.

The quarantined frontline staff included Airport Authority staff, Samoa Airways staff, police officers and customs and immigration authorities.

Cargo Officer for Samoa Airways, Joseph Petelo Taufao was among the people who were reunited with families Sunday, seven days short of the 21 days quarantine period initially announced by the government.

He told the newspaper he believed they were released because they had all returned negative COVID-19 tests over the two weeks of quarantine.

Taufao added they were surprised they were only taken in three days after the positive tests.

He said they had all been worried that they might still have the virus and would end up infecting their families.

They have been told they needed to self isolate at home for five days before they could return to work.
