The Covid-19 Task Force has approved changing the vaccination age requirement for travelers to American Samoa.

At present, anyone 16 years and older is required to show proof of full vaccination before they can travel to American Samoa.

With covid vaccination now available to 5 year olds, the Task Force approved a recommendation from the Department of Health to lower the age requirement so that 5 years and older must show proof of full vaccination before they are approved for travel to American SamoaA.

To give travelers time, Task Force Chairman, Lt Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale said the new requirement will be enforced for flights in February.

At the start of this week’s Task Force meeting the Chairman offered condolences and prayers for the people of the Kingdom of Tonga following last weekend’s massive volcanic eruption and tsunami that has so far claimed three lives.

He thanked God that despite the uncertainty in the weather last weekend, American Samoa was spared.

Talauega asked members to keep Tonga and the Pacific region in their prayers.
