Samoa’s Minister of Health, Valasi Tafito Selesele, has confirmed he has instructed officials to prepare everything to send former Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi for treatment in New Zealand.

TV1Samoa reports the Minister said he had met with Tuilaepa on Saturday and he had seemed strong but he felt he needed rest.

Valasi said he advised the Chief Executive Officer of Health and the ministry to prepare to send the opposition leader “at the earliest opportunity”.

Tuilaepa was admitted last Thursday with a fever and tiredness and kept under observation and was released Monday morning.

Valasi said he had advised Tuilaepa to take time off his work to rest and look after himself.

“We all know he is a hard worker but he needs to take time to rest,” he said.

Tuilaepa has been absent from the current session of Parliament since it started on Tuesday.

There has been no official confirmation from the Human Rights Protection Party that its leader is preparing to travel for treatment.
