Man and girlfriend charged after a knife exchange

scale-of-justice-4

A 10-yr old was witness to a knife throwing incident between his father and his girlfriend though police got conflicting reports from the couple about the incident.

Joseph Sagapolutele and his girlfriend Baby Tagaloa Tago are each charged with second degree assault in connection with an incident on November 28 at Sagapolutele’s home in Iliili.

The defendant told police his girlfriend had asked to go to Nuuuli for a massage and he said okay. The girl friend claims he swore at her when she asked.

The defendant said his girlfriend tossed a basket of clothes on The floor and got a knife from the kitchen which she threw at him and missed.

While he stormed outside slamming the door, she went back into the kitchen and grabbed another knife and threatened to kill him and commit suicide.

Sagapolutele told police his girlfriend destroyed most of the things in his house, threw his documents outside then left.

He claimed that the reason why the girlfriend was upset is because she couldn’t get cigarettes. She had sent his son to the neighbors for a cigarette earlier.

The girlfriend’s version was different.

She claimed the defendant had swore at her when she asked to go for a massage. She got angry, and grabbed a knife from the kitchen, which “she let go.”

She then asked Sagapolutele for his phone to call her family but he got mad, and fetched a machete which he threw at her but missed.

The defendant’s 10-yr old son said he was outside in the plantation and heard loud cussing from the two.

When he came into the house he saw his father running outside scared.

Then his father re-entered the house and got a machete. The boy said he doesn’t know if his father threw the machete at his girlfriend but it went into another room.

Sagapolutele and Tago were each charged with second degree assault and bail was set at $5000 each.
