The Samoa Police Service has expressed concern at the rising numbers of domestic violence in the country in the last three years.

TV1Samoa reports Assistant Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo raised the concern with the media after the death of a young mother of six, allegedly at the hands of her husband early this week.

Auapa’au said the woman was between 30 and 40 years old and died of stab wounds from a knife allegedly inflicted by her husband who is in police custody.

The assistant commissioner said that 878 domestic violence cases were reported in 2019 and 964 were reported in 2020.

So far this year their office has received 628 complaints of domestic violence.

For the latest domestic violence fatality, the Assistant Commissioner said that as the investigations are continuing, he cannot say what the husband has been charged with.
