The nationwide supply chain backlog at US ports involving hundreds of ships and thousands of containers could mean federal help soon for American Samoa’s ports. KHJ News Washington DC correspondent Matt Kaye has the story.

The White House faced with supply chain congestion fueling the highest inflation in 30-plus years, will speed up delivery of port and marine infrastructure grants within the next 45-days.

And in the next 90-days, it will have the Army Corps identify targets for more than $4 (B) billion to repair outdated infrastructure and deepen harbors for larger cargo ships.

Senior administration officials added that port officials around the country can also redirect leftover pandemic grants to new projects to clear bottlenecks.

President Biden was visiting the Port of Baltimore to highlight the latest actions, speeding 243 (M) million of 17 (B) billion for ports in the infrastructure bill.

That, as supply chain woes and soaring consumer prices spark voter irritation.

Congresswoman Uifa’atali says early grants she’s pursuing for American Samoa including for airports, would also mean better transportation between the islands, improving access to LBJ Hospital and critical healthcare.
