The 3rd International Samoan Language Symposium gets underway at 11 am local time online. Due to the Covid pandemic the symposium, which brings together academicians, orators, writers, students and preservers of the Samoan language, is being held virtually.

To’oto’o’ole’a’ava Dr Evile Faatauao Feleti of the Samoan Studies Institute at the American Samoa Community College says noted authorities on the Samoan language are on the program as speakers and presenters.

They include the former Head of State of Samoa, Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, orator and Samoan author Fofo Sunia, and educators Sala Pafuti Dr F. Tagoilelagi Leota from New Zealand, Tofa Alaoi’a Moni Pili from California and To’oto’ole’a’ava himself from ASCC.

Two community-based Aoga Samoa, S.A.I.L.I. of Utah and Le Fetuao Samoan Language Center in Hawaii will also share their virtual Gagana Samoa classes for children, youth and adults during the COVID pandemic.

Hosting the symposium are the University of Utah and several organizations dedicated to the preservation of the Samoan language and culture.
