ASCC Samoan Studies Program awarded ANA grant

Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata has received official notice from the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) and the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) of a $311,939 grant for the American Samoa Community College (ASCC).

The grant is for the Samoan Studies Program at ASCC.

“I congratulate President Rosevonne Pato and the hardworking faculty and staff at the Community College,” said Amata. “I also thank Okenaisa Fauolo, whose hard work led to this award.”

“The grant, titled ‘E iloa oe i lau gagana,’ is an important reminder to us that the hard work of maintaining our culture begins with the defense and expansion of our language.”

“Special thanks to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, ACF Acting Assistant Secretary JooYeun Chang, and ANA Acting Commissioner Michelle Sauve for their leadership and recognition of the important issues facing our territory.”
