Manual test of Safe Travels Program underway

Plans to conduct a manual test pilot of the Safe Travels program with the August 30th Medicaid flight from Hawaii are underway. The Covid 19 Task Force was provided an update by the ASG Hawaii Office at its meeting Monday.

A press release from the Task Force said about 100 travelers comprised of ASG officials, Federal employees, private essential employees, and returning students will undergo the manual Safe Travels Program that requires a total of 3 negative Covid 19 tests 10 days, 5 days, and 48 hours prior to departure.

The manual system will assist the Task Force to test and prepare for the electronic Safe Travels system that the Task Force aims to launch prior to the September 13th flight by Hawaiian Airlines,

KHJ News has received several inquiries from off island on when the registry for the Safe Travel program will be on line. Questions sent to the Chief Procurement Officer, Medicaid Director and the Governor’s Office on whether a contract for the registry has been awarded have not been answered. An official if one company that submitted a bid said they were told that an award would be made early this week. Bids were closed last Wednesday.

Meanwhile the next Medicaid Flight arrives tonight with no passengers and returns to Honolulu with a full passenger load.

Hawaiian a airlines is offering early check in from 2:00pm to 4:00Pm then the counters shut down for 30 minutes and reopens from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
