American Samoa’s COVID-19 vaccination rate has risen slightly with 52.2% of the population now fully vaccinated and 58.9% percent having one shot.

19% of the population has not received any shots yet and 22.1% are ineligible to receive any COVID-19 shots.

Village by village vaccination rates continue to show steady improvements from May 28th up to now. The majority of villages reporting below 50% of residents with at least one shot are those on the eastern side of Tutuila.

Of the 27,983 total individuals that have received at least one vaccination dose, the number of individuals past due for a second shot (1420) has continued to drop indicating that more are returning to complete their vaccination doses.

The final Saturday village vaccination outreach this past Saturday had the best turnout with a total of 611 receiving either the Pfizer or Moderna shot at vaccination sites set up in Amouli, Utulei, DYWA Tafuna, Pavaiai and Leone.

The Department of Health provided a brief update on COVID-19 in neighboring Pacific locations to include Fiji which has reported 1,778 new cases and 25 deaths.

Fiji’s COVID-19 stats contrast starkly with cases in French Polynesia (51), Guam (1), and Northern Marianas (2). The difference is attributed to higher vaccination rates in these other islands.
