Pala Lagoon Swimming Pool to reopen this week

Restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of the Pala Lagoon Community Swimming Pool in March of last year.

There’s good news for swimmers, especially the children. The pool management plans to reopen the pool this week. Rotarian Taulapapa Willie Sword said Rotary members have been working tirelessly to get the pool cleaned, repainted and ready before it reopens. The Rotarians and pool staff also pulled and cut grass and overgrown plants with some getting stung by bees in the process.

The pool will open this week as soon as we get the printed certificates for life guards, said Taulapapa.

A new manager Vaegaau Sagaga Fe’a (“Sisi”) is in charge.

Taulapapa says the pool will offer swimming lessons for all ages and when schools open they hope to offer swimming lessons for grade school.

Upcoming improvements are to tile the entire pool to reduce maintenance and a snack bar.
