
The number of ASG employees and officials now in Manu’a for the Manu’a Cession Day is not known but last night was the last boat trip to Manu’a before the celebration.
The Manu’atele was full.
It was a rough trip over according to those who took the boat ride over. After tossing and turning on the high seas, a KVZK-TV truck that a crew was to use for coverage of the festivities, was damaged.
The Manu’a Cession day is Friday, July 16 but there are events before in the preceding days.
A two day fishing tournament is scheduled for Wednesday morning and ground and sea tours for the ASG visitors from Tutuila.
A Farm Fair also takes place that morning, along with visits to historical sites, fishing charters and food booths.
On Thursday the Land Grant 4H will have outreach programs at the EOB in Tau and at 12.30 pm is the prize giving for the fishing tournament.
The Manu’a Cession Day church service is slated for 2 pm Thursday.
The official celebration for Manu’a Cession day is scheduled to begin at 7am Friday.There will and be an Ava ceremony before the official program with prayers, flag raising, speeches by the governor and a representative of Manu’a, a parade and traditional presentations.
Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga told directors at a cabinet meeting two weeks ago that all of them should attend the Manu’a celebration.
Friday is an official ASG holiday but federal agencies and most of the private sector will be opened.
