A post-election challenge over the seat for the electorate of Lefaga and Faleaseela has been settled after a gentleman’s agreement between competing candidates.

According to the Samoa Observer, Sua Tanielu Sua of the Human Rights Protection Party, withdrew his challenge against elected Member of Parliament, Masinalupe Makesi Masinalupe, a member of the Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party.

In turn Masinalupe dropped his counter suit against Sua, a former fisheries biologist with the American Samoa Dept of Marine and Wildlife Resources.

Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese, informed the lawyers representing the parties to advertise their intention to withdraw as a requirement.

The case will be called again next Thursday to make the changes official.

To date FAST has retained the 26 seats it won in the April 9 general elections while HRPP has 25 seats.
