A Memorial Day message by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga quotes President Ronald Reagan: “Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost, it imposes a burden.”

The Governor implores, “On this day and every day after, I urge that we continue to tell their stories and remember the names of these brave individuals.”

Lemanu said that Memorial Day gives us pause to remember those “who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice and to whom we owe a debt that we can never repay.

“As we honor their memory, let us continue to reflect on their unwavering commitment and patriotism of our fallen heroes, whose act of valor has allowed for our people to love entire lives basked in freedom, we extend our prayers for Gods grace, strength and comfort to the families of these heroes.”

Lemanu on behalf of Lt Governor Talauega and their families, thanked all the servicemen and women “who courageously gave their lives in exchange for our freedom.”

He said, “their commitment will never be forgotten, their bravery is the pinnacle of patriotism, their sacrifice has secured the liberties we enjoy.

“They are the reason we memorialize today.”

The Memorial Day service on Monday will be hosted by the Governors Office at the Veterans Memorial Monument in Tafuna beginning at 7:30 am.

The public is invited.
