Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal is officially appointed Director of the Historic Preservation Office, a division of the Governor’s Office.

Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga said in a memo dated March 5 that Tuimalo is hereby appointed as Executive Director of the Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Preservation Officer for the American Samoa Government. “He has full authority to lead the Historic Preservation Office.”

Lemanu added that the HPO plays a crucial role “ensuring our history is accurately documented and that our cultural values and traditions are preserved. Tuimalo’s credentials and extensive years of experience as an educator makes him well suited for his role.“

Tuimalo is a long time educator at the American Samoa Community College and was most recently the ASCC librarian.

He earned his AA from ASCC in 1985 before going on to complete a BS at the University of Guam and his MA from San Diego State University. Besides his regular teaching duties, Mr. Zodiacal has also been a longstanding advisor to the College’s chapter of the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa honors society.

He was one of 23 recipients from the US affiliated territories awarded a scholarship to work towards a Master’s Degree from University of North Texas in 2010.

Tuimalo replaces Letisia Tish Peau who has been Director of HPO for the last few years.
