Congresswoman Aumua Amata left the territory today to head back to Washington DC via Samoa and New Zealand.

The congresswoman, who has been in the territory since June for her re-election campaign, had to charter the Samoa Airways Twin Otter that’s based here for flights to Manu’a, to take her across to Faleolo Airport.

There she caught an Air New Zealand flight to Auckland, from where she will head to DC, via Seoul, Korea.

According to staff, Aumua wanted to be in DC before Monday when Congress is to take up discussion on stimulus funding legislation.
Congresswoman Aumua was the sole passenger on the Twin Otter plane, according to airport officials.
Last Tuesday she was re- elected to a fourth term in office winning 83.3% of the ballots cast.
During this trip Aumua was bestowed the title that her late father, American Samoa’s first locally elected Governor Peter Coleman held, Uifaatali of Pago Pago.
