Top Teacher for 2021 is Sabrina Suluai Mahuka

Congratulations to the 2021 Territorial Teacher of the Year, Sabrina Suluai Mahuka, English Teacher at Samoana High School.

She was officially announced as TTOY yesterday by Director for Education, Dr Ruth Matagi-Tofiga.

Suluai Mahuka is a graduate of Samoana High School and ASCC.

She obtained her Bachelor’s Ed in 2014, and her Masters in curriculum studies in 2016 from the University of Hawaii, Manoa.

She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy in Learning Technology and design from UH.

Her teaching career started at Fa’asao Marist as head of the English Department before she moved to Samoana as an English Teacher.

She dedicates this honor to her mother, a former Territorial Teacher of the Year Mrs Merwyden Suluai, a teacher at Matafao Elementary.

She acknowledges her husband Erik Mahuka, her father a Navy Corpsman, and her Samoana High School Family, students and teachers for their support.

Suluai Mahuka said, “I enjoy teaching because it allows me to give back to my community, and it brings me great joy to see this younger generation strive to achieve academic success. I hope that I continue to grow as a passionate educator, as I have found that teaching is and will always be my life profession”.

The DOE director congratulates Sabrina Suluai Mahuka and extends a hearty malo lava to all School Teachers of the Year as well as District Teachers of the Year.
