It’s official! Public schools will return to five days a week schedule ‪on October 13‬.

Director of Education Dr Ruth Matagi-Tofiga said at a meeting of school principals for Elementary, Secondary, ERATE, ECE and SPED Divisions yesterday most expressed support of the DOE plan for the current staggered schedule which combines online and in class sessions.

Data was also collected from elementary, secondary, ECE and SPED on student attendance which will soon be reviewed to evaluate learning progress.

The director said that the first quarter will end in two more weeks and school will return to the full schedule after White Sunday, which will be ‪October 13‬.

“This is just in time for student evaluation and progress reports,“ said Dr Matagi-Tofiga.

“This data is vital in identifying educational gaps that the department can address in moving forward during these unprecedented times.“

The only exception is Nu’uuli Vocational High School, due to limited school facilities, as the school is going through a major construction and renovation.

Nu’uuli Vo Tech will continue with their current schedule which combines in person and online classes.

Principals were urged to meet with school staff and parents, and inform them of the changes.

The DOE Director said, My sincere gratitude to parents and the community for your continued support, and together, we will persevere through this most unusual event.”
