No chairs and desks, unsanitary bathrooms, no laptops and ipads and students using tents as a cafeteria.

Parents are reporting such conditions from public school campuses at the start of the 2020 2021 school year.

This has prompted suggestions from parents and faculty that the opening of schools should have been pushed back until everything was ready for students.

A parent at Tafuna Elementary School forwarded photos of broken chairs they felt were not safe for the students to sit on. Some of the photos and emails describing conditions at the schools have been forwarded to lawmakers.

At Nu’uuli Vocational Technical High School, parents reported that bathrooms were not clean and students were having breakfast and lunch in tents.

Another concern of parents is how virtual classes can be conducted when their children have not been given laptops or ipads for their classes.

The Office of Procurement held a bid opening this morning for vendors bidding on the supply of laptops , ipads and chromebooks.

Because of the quantity of electronic equipment needed , its expected that orders will not arrive for several weeks.

Also being awaited are orders for individual chairs and desks.
