The Behavioral Health Clinic at the Tafuna Community Health Center is being used as a temporary drug rehabilitation center for now while plans are being drawn up for a new building.
Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua says they can only manage a groundbreaking for the new facility during the remaining months of the administration but a two story building won’t be read.
“But at least we would have a temporary building to be used as a drug rehab center for the time being,” he said at the cabinet meeting.
Governor Lolo Moliga said funding for the new building has been set aside by the Coronavirus Task Force and as soon as Public Works completes the design work construction should begin.
He said the building should take just 6 to 7 months to complete.
The court has often questioned the lack of drug rehabilitation services provided by the government when funding had been awarded through the Criminal Justice Planning Agency for such services.
The Territorial Correctional Facility used to have the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment but when funding evaporated the program also faded.
