DOH Supporting Yacht in Distress

The three US citizens on board a sailboat which entered Pago Harbor last week after taking on water are being fed and supported by the Department of Health.

The yacht Galatea is moored at the quarantine buoy, just off Pago Pago.

Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua said DOH is providing food and water for the three occupants until they have completed their 14 day quarantine and can get their own provisions.

The yacht had sought permission to enter port after its engine went down. However the Harbor Master denied their request because of concerns over coronavirus. Then the boat started to take on water and made an emergency request which was granted by the Director of Port Administration Taimalelagi Dr, Claire Pounele.

The Director of Health told KHJ News that they are helping the crew until they are able to get their engine repaired.

He said DOH is coordinating with other departments such as Port Administration, Customs and the AG’s Office in its dealings with the Galatea.

At this time there are no issues with the sailboat and the three people on board, said Motusa.
