We conclude our coverage of the Chamber of Commerce, “Lets Talk Business Forum,” with gubernatorial teams with this final segment.
The question: “In 2018 the Farm Bill was passed which legalized the federal level of productions of industrial hemp and already the market has changed considerably. The supply of and demand for industrial hemp has skyrocketed thanks to a booming cultivation market and now CBD (cannabidiol) products. If elected will you take affirmative action to legalize industrial hemp in American Samoa, why or why not?”
Candidate for Governor Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Mauga replied in Samoan that many states and territories are turning to industrial hemp as a revenue earner.
He said the state of Colorado for example has no taxes and depends solely on revenues from industrial hemp. For the territory however he believes there will be differing views from churches and members of the public because of concerns that it can be easily abused and people would use hemp for illegal purposes. Lemanu said for he and Talauega this is a question that should be put to the people.
Candidate for lt governor Tapaau Dr Daniel Mageo Aga gave this response.
