The CEO of LBJ Hospital Faumuina John Faumuina has confirmed that a technician contracted by the hospital to check on dialysis machines traveled here this past Saturday on the cargo flight.

The technician was taken in for quarantine at the Department of Health Alternate Care Facilities for one night only and then released the following morning.

Faumuina said the technician makes quarterly visits to check on the solution used for hemodialysis, however because of the suspension of flights from Hawaii his arrival came much later than scheduled.

He is only supposed to be here for a week.

The CEO said the technician met the requirements for negative COVID-19 tests and they were expecting that he would not be in quarantine as he was here for a limited time and had to complete the vital work he was contracted for.

However DOH made the call to have the man in quarantine at the alternate care facilities in Tafuna.

According to Faumuina he had to convince DOH and the Governor’s Office that if the technician was not allowed out to check on the dialysis machines, it may cost lives.

The technician spent Saturday night in quarantine for Saturday night and was released the next morning.

The CEO said the technician is in quarantine at the LBJ housing in Fagaalu and is being allowed out to perform his work in the Dialysis Clinic. He will be departing on this week’s cargo flight on Friday.
