The 2020 JPS Measina Club Summer Volleyball Clinics concluded this past Saturday after a fun tournament for divisions ages 8 to 10, 11 to 12, and 13 to 14.

Prizes were awarded to teams and individuals in the different divisions.

Individual prizes were also awarded for sportsmanship, most improved, and perfect attendance.

New this year was the “Challenge Player” awards, given to the players who may not have been the most talented, but exhibited the most effort and willingness to go the extra mile to learn the sport.

Each Challenge Player received an ASTCA Dash phone donated by CEO Fala Sualevai.

The clinics which began in June and continued through the month of July provided the opportunity for boys and girls to learn the sport of volleyball. There were over 50 participants.

Head Coach Lydia Faleafine-Nomura said, “The clinics were challenging but also rewarding. In addition to learning the skills for volleyball, the clinics taught the two basic principals of JPS sports, Respect and Discipline.”

She added that JPS views sports as a means to further education, encourage fellowship and build friendship among the youth.

“Our youth need extra curricular activities to occupy their time, stay fit and build mental confidence”.

She is grateful to many of the other youth sports organizations that are conducting developmental clinics for our youth.

“Our community and government need to support sports development for all our sports organizations,” said Faleafine Nomura,

She  thanks the parents for entrusting their children to JPS and the players for consistently showing up for clinics and learning the game of volleyball.

She especially wants to thank her Measina volleyball coaches Audreena Sualevai, Abish and Esther Autele, Chloe Le’iato, Pua Fuimaono,  and Tafailagi and Talae Toelupe.

“JPS is grateful to have had these wonderful young women to help with coaching and carry the ball throughout the two months of clinics. A final thank you to the Department of Commerce CSBG Program Manager Ponita Laussen and staff Dorothy Siatunuu for their continued support for community programs. *
