Samoa’s former prison cells at Tafa’igata have been turned into classrooms for a new school by the Ministry of Education.

Samoa Observer reports that a total of 20 acres including all prison buildings have been leased to the Ministry of Education by the Samoa Land Corporation.

According to the Ministry the development will house a primary school and an Early Childhood Education Centre.

The project will be officially opened next week with classes starting July 27, 2020.

While the “classrooms” have been painted blue and red, the building retains
signs of it’s past with windows still bearing iron bars not seen in any schools around the country.
