The governor wants contract employees converted to career service status before he leaves office.

At Friday’s cabinet meeting he told directors that thy must ensure the jobs of all employees n their departments are secure before their terms are up.

Lolo instructed Director of Human Resources to work with directors to convert contract employees to career service.

He said the incoming governor will have their own strategy to deal with the issue, but he did not elaborate. Lolo said it was important to bring in people who will be an asset to the government.

The governor  also directed that all hiring will cease one quarter before the end of the administration.

He said that from the start of their administration they have always emphasized the training of employees under the director level to take over leadership positions.

He said some of those employees have stepped up to the plate and this was a positive reflection  of the efforts by directors in capacity building.

Converting contract workers to career service positions is an added cost to the government because ASG would have to pay retirement benefits that contract workers do not qualify for.
