
Only 10 gigabytes of the 200 gigabytes made available by the Hawaiki Cable are currently being used.
The CEO of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority Lewis Wolman said at a House hearing yesterday that ASTCA is still trying to sell some of the bandwidth locally and off island.
He was asked whether ASTCA was making any revenues from Hawaiki at this stage.

ASTCA, in a consortium with Hawaiki and other partners, is awaiting the outcome of a bid to provide undersea cable service to French Polynesia.

At a hearing the day before, the House Retirement Committee asked the Retirement Fund Director, Iaulualo Talia Faafetai if the Fund had received any payment from ASTCA under a law passed last year earmarking 25% of sales from the Hawaiki Cable to the Retirement Fund.
The money is intended to address the unfunded liability.
Iaulualo replied that the Retirement Fund has not received any such money from ASTCA but perhaps ASTCA is waiting till the end of the year to pay up.
