
Coconut Mutts, a non profit organization dedicated to improving animal welfare in American Samoa will be holding free spay/neutering clinics on the island beginning next week.
Five veterinarian volunteers and support staff are arriving Monday night and they will be here until February 24th.
The group will conduct spay/neuters at the Vet Clinic at the Dept of Agriculture Tuesday and Wednesday then they will move to Leone for clinics there on Thursday and Friday.
The following week, Coconut Mutts will be at the Vet Clinic from the Presidents Day holiday, up to Friday of that week.
The last clinic by Coconut Mutts in the territory was June of last year when Dr Bret Grover was here by myself . This time he will be joined by former Dept of Agriculture veterinarian Dr. Kristen Jensen.
Tanya Tarasawa who is looking after the Vet Clinic said supplies such as dog and cat food, kitty litter, old sheets or towels will be appreciated.
She said, “We get animals dumped on us all the time. But we ask the community to donate food for their care until they are healthy again and given to families wanting pets.”
Last month, Alofa Mo Meaola, brought down US veterinarian Dr. Kathleen Riley who worked at the Vet Clinic for almost a month.
In that time she and volunteers conducted 187 spaying/neutering, 189 health checks, 26 special surgeries, 3 euthanasias and 4 adoptions.
