
Along with the solar and wind energy projects for which ground was broken yesterday, the American Smaoa Power Authority also plans to turn waste at the landfill in Futiga to energy.
This is a $31 million gasification project with Maritech Solutions/Dynamics Energy under a Power Purchase Agreement. It will use all the waste dumped at Futiga, except for cement and metal, to produce electricity. 
Acting Executive Director of ASPA, Wallon Young, said while a small amount of electricity will be generated the real benefit is protecting the environment.
