This Sunday, September 29 marks the tenth year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami which ended the lives of 34 men, women and children in American Samoa.
In observance and in memory of those in American Samoa who lost their lives, Governor Lolo Moliga issued a memorandum ordering all flags in the territory to be lowered to half-staff beginning sunrise Saturday until sunset Sunday.
The governor states:, “May the lowering of the flags prompt us to remember those who died and the devastation of that day, and may it also move us to give thanks to God for the lives that were spared. May we always be attentive and focused on the need to be vigilant and meticulous in our preparation for such disasters.”
A territorial memorial service will be held at 9am Saturday, at the Veterans Memorial Center.
This Saturday, the Rotary Club of Pago Pago will be hosting a 10 year anniversary memorial of the 2009 Tsunami,.
In addition to testimonies from the victims’ families and friends, Global Family Foundation’s Laura Tesimale will award scholarships for the children of tsunami victims.
Rep. Sam Meleisea is the Master of Ceremony, while the ieynote speaker is First Lady Cynthia Moliga.
Reverend Elder Ioane Evagelia will offer the invocation and special remarks will be given by Mariana Faiai Hawaiian Airlines supervisor, and Laura Ava Tesimale for the Global Family Foundation.
The event will begin at 4PM Saturday.

The Leone Village which lost 12 people in the tsunami will hold a memorial service at 4pm Sunday at the Holy Cross Church, Leone followed by the release of balloons at the Healing Garden.
