The women continue to bring in the medals for Team American Samoa at the 16th Pacific Games.

Yesterday Kalani Soli and Charity Sagiao won a bronze medal in womens doubles holding off a very strong Samoa team.

Kalani and Charity took the first set 6-4, then Samoa won the second one 6-3 and in a brilliant finish our girls served Samoa defeat 6-5 in the final set.

Earlier Kalani defeated her Samoa opponent to win bronze in the womens singles.  And she teamed up with Christian Duchnak in mixed doubles to clinch her third bronze medal for the day.  What a great finish for our womens team.

All added the tennis players brought in four bronze medals for Team American Samoa.

The first one was from Charity and Kalani for the team event. Kalani amassed four bronze medals from the Samoa Games, which may well be the first time a local athlete has won that many medals at the Pacific Games which started in 1963. Teammate Charity won three.

And we got confirmation that one of our boxers Rileyyanzac Tuala won a bronze in the Super Heavyweight Division.

And that brings our medal tally for the Pacific Games to 13: 1 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze.

Here’s the breakdown: 1 gold from the womens basketball team, 2 silver from Tanu Jungblut in weightlifting, and one each from Tilali Scanlan in swimming, Jolando Taala in boxing, and shotputter Nuuausala Tuilefano, four bronze medals came from our tennis players, one from boxer Rileyyanzac Tuala, one from our lone swimmer Tilali Scanlan and one from our women’s beach volleyball team, Deveney Pulu and Litara Keil.

The only remaining sport that are competing in this morning is the triathlon  and our competitors , as listed on the Pacific Games website are Matthew Bracken, Franklin Paaga and John Scanlan in the mens division and Melinda Clayville in the womens division.

Good luck to them and well done to all of our sports men and women who have finished their competitions and done all of us proud regardless of victory or defeat.

The Games closing ceremony will begin at 6:30 this evening at Apia Park.
