DPS fire truck in Ofu was undergoing repairs

The Department of Public Safety also had a fire truck in Ofu, Manu’a however it was brought to Tutuila for maintenance.

Head of the Fire Division of DPS Commander Cliff OBrien said in response to KHJ News queries that the truck was housed in the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Building at Ofu Airport.

But it needed to be serviced as the lights were not working and other parts needed to be replaced.

OBrien said the fire truck was supposed to be shipped back to Ofu after being repaired last week however there was no space on the Manu’atele.

He said the truck should be on its way to Ofu on the next Manu’atele voyage this week.

A fire occurred at the ASPA micro grid plant in Ofu last Friday and the fire was put out using two garden hoses and a power washer.

Manu’a faipule Tiaoalii Sai was critical of the absence of a fire truck to help put out the blaze.

The fire destroyed the solar battery storage for the micro grid and Ofu and Olosega are now solely powered by diesel fuel again.
