Clean water essential in maintaining quality produce

Farmers have been told to make sure their water supply for cleaning produce that people normally eat raw is clean.

In addition, they should make sure the containers they use to carry produce to buyers are clean.

Basic tips like these are being stressed at a workshop on food safety organized by the Department of Agriculture and Land Grant for local farmers.

More than 60 farmers who supply the School Lunch Program, LBJ Hospital, stores and  restaurants attended the two day workshop.

Luisa Castro of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture is the instructor.
