Samoa being eyed for motorbike plant

An Australian firm is looking at setting up an electric motorcycle manufacturing factory in Samoa.

Peeq Samoa has recently set up the country’s first call center utilizing the Tui Samoa submarine cable, and it is keen to set up a manufacturing unit too.

Executive Trustee, Graham Liao told Samoa Observer the company was currently in negotiations with government to set up the factory.

He said they are  looking to house the manufacturng plant at the former Yazaki Samoa plant which was the country’s biggest private employer.

He said with their company based in Brisbane, the five hour flight time was favorable as well as the Samoans grasp of the English language.

Liao said the design of the electric motorbike is almost complete and with final approval they are most likely to start manufacturing by September of this year.

He said they have a longterm plan to relocate the company headquarters to Samoa.

“Samoa is like a micro Singapore waiting to happen, and I really believe that,” he said.

Peeq is a group of companies founded in Australia in 2013 which provides products and services and is due to go under one brand, in July this year.
