
Ukulele virtuoso, Taimane, the daughter of the late Palepa Elva Tauiliili Gardner of Pago Pago and Jack Gardner of Honolulu was voted Favorite Entertainer of the Year in Hawaii’s Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.
This is the only category of the Na Hoku, regarded as the Grammy of Hawaiian Music, that is voted by the public.
John Akapo was another Samoan artist who was a nominee for this category.
Taimane, who began playing the ukulele when she was five plays jazz, classical, rock and flamenco and other genres on the ukulele.
She had fans from around the world, voting for her.
She posted on her FaceBook page following her selection as Favorte Entertainer of the Year, “Thanks to your votes I won my very first Na Hoku Award. I’m beyond elated and so honored that my fans took the time to support me. I will continue to follow my passion because I know you believe in me. Keep believing in yourself and follow yours.”
