The London runway lit up with fashions by a local educator who has created some award winning traditional wear for local beauty queens.

She is Roberta Pisia Laumoli, owner of Fierce Island Couture by RL.

On Monday her creations were paraded at the NLC White Place in London as a teaser for the London Pacific Fashion Week that Laumoli will take part in this September.

This is the same fashion event that designers Leuila and Joseph Ioane of Off the Rock, participated in last year.

Laumoli, a teacher at Pavaiai Elementary School, told KHJ News that a friend of hers tagged the CEO of London Pacific Fashion Week, Ana Lavekau, sketches of her creations on FB.

Lavekau was impressed and invited her to this year’s show.

Designing is a side job for Laumoli.

She was one of the designers of the traditionally inspired wear for former Miss Pacific Islands Matauaina Toomalatai at the regional pageant.

Laumoli made 10 pieces for this week’s teaser event and she was introduced as an emerging designer from American Samoa.

Pink and blue were prominent in her collection, reflecting her faafafine gender.

Laumoli says being invited to represent American Samoa for this international show is both an honor and a blessing.

She said being a full time teacher and juggling schedules to meet due dates was challenging, but it’s all worth it.
