The Executive Director of the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund Iaulualo Talia Faafetai says their office has nothing to do with a bingo being billed as an ASGERF Family Special – ASGERF being the acronym of the American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund.
Tickets for the March 23 bingo are being sold and some intending buyers have asked if the Retirement Fund has had to resort to raising funds through a bingo.
KHJ News sent a scanned copy of the bingo ticket to Iaulualo, who will attending the Retirement Fund meeting of the Board Fund advisers and lawmakers in Honolulu.
He responded, “I’m not aware of this fund raising; this is the first time I’ve learned of it.”
“Neither the board nor I have approved such fund raising and I’m contacting the staff right now to see who’s responsible for this.”
The venue for the ASGERF Family Special is Vaivao’s guest house in Pago Pago.
Meanwhile, reports from Honolulu about yesterday’s meeting of the Retirement Fund say it was well attended.
The meeting at the Prince Hotel in Waikiki, the board was told that if the contribution rate is not increased in 2019 to 16%, the Fund will be broke.
This is basically the same message from two years ago without any action taken to address the unfunded liability of the Fund.
