No local visitors & tourists to Aunuu Island on Sunday

The island of Aunuu has banned tourists and visitors to the island on Sundays.  This is part of rules passed by the Aunuu Council of Chiefs which have been publicized on KVZK-TV.

It was announced that there will be no more tourists and any visitors to the island on Sunday.

In addition swimming is prohibited on Sunday. The only exception is if someone needs to be in the ocean after they have had a tatooo or if sea water is needed as part of a fofo or traditional healing.

Consumption of alcohol and smoking are not allowed on board vessels to and from the island and drinking will not be allowed on the wharf at Aunuu.

It was also announced that Aunuu has banned the use of small fine mats or lalaga for faalavelave.  Only the large fine mats will be accepted.

Aunuu Island has also banned the use of pesticides and other chemicals on plantations in the swamp area (taufusi) on the island.

Anyone found violating the Aunuu Island rules will be subject to punishment by the council of chiefs of Aunuu Island.
