The opening of a new restaurant that’s adjacent to the Executive Office Building in Utulei has raised a lot of eyebrows.
The restaurant, called Le Fonuea, is owned by Siakisone Liu and his wife Mrs. Eseneiaso Liu, Director of the ASG Department of Human Resources.
The restaurant, which was officially opened yesterday morning, is in containers with outdoor seating under umbrellas.
Some of the questions which members of the public and business owners have asked is whether there was a request for proposals to set up a such a restaurant on government property.
Another thing that has surprised many is the number of Asians that are working at the restaurant.
KHJ News tried to obtain comments from Mrs. Liu this afternoon but was told that she was busy and would get back to us; she did not call by news time.
Efforts to reach Director of Administrative Services Fuega Moliga were not successful either.
Regarding the hiring of Asians at the restaurant, KHJ News understands that Immigration officers paid a visit to the eatery this morning and inquiries were made for the immigration approvals and work authorization for the employees.
It’s understood that the business has approval for three Asian employees but there were more than that number seen at the opening and also recorded on KVZK-TV coverage of the opening.
The location of the restaurant has also created traffic jams in the already congested area.
At the opening on Monday, Senator Tuaolo Fruean announced that all employees of Nana’s company will have breakfast at the restaurant this morning.
And when employees of the EOB turned up for work, there was already a big crowd of Nana’s employees at the new eatery.
