CJ tells DUI defendant to handover driver’s license

high-court

A man caught driving under the influence while on probation had to hand over his drivers license to Chief Justice Michael Kruse in High Court last Friday.

Chung Se Lee, convicted  of vehicular homicide several years ago, was in court for an order to show cause concerning revocation of his probation.

Lee’s attorney, Matalupevao Leupolu Jr. asked for a continuance until after his client’s DUI hearing in District Court in January.  The Chief Justice said his concern was how to stop the defendant from driving until his case has been adjudicated.

After asking for suggestions from the attorneys, Kruse asked for the defendant’s drivers license and speaking through an interpreter, impressed upon Lee that he is not to drive at all.  And he added, “don’t get a duplicate license from OMV”.

Lee will be back in court on January 18 for his show cause hearing.
