Vote for delegates expected to return in Congress

Just re-elected Congresswoman Aumua Amata Radewagen expects House Democrats to renew the floor vote for the delegates, now that their party is back in the majority, but says committee work is where she will have the most influence.

KHJ News Washington D.C. correspondent Matt Kaye reports.

The issue is not new for Republican Aumua Amata Radewagen, who was involved in discussions with party leaders on the question ahead of the now-ending GOP-controlled Congress.

But Amata withdrew from those talks that she said at the time had become “politicized,”  and left it up to GOP leaders to decide.

Now that Democrats have regained control of the House majority, Radewagen expects the issue to return—

Radewagen says she’s considering her response to that, but more important than the floor vote when the full House rises as a “Committee of the Whole” for bill and amendment debate, is work in actual committees…

Asked if she expects to remain on panels including House Veterans Affairs and Natural Resources…

And despite predictions of partisan warfare in the new Congress, as Democrats plan investigations of President Trump and his administration, Amata remains optimistic she can build “bipartisan support” for the islands…and she says, “get American Samoa’s agenda done”.
