GHC Reid premises at the Tafuna Industrial Park was the scene of much festivity and fun last Friday evening as they celebrated the 40th anniversary of “Vailima, Samoa’s Own Beer”.

GHC Reid also had a lot to celebrate as well, having exclusively distributed the Samoa based Vailima Beer in the territory for the last 35 years.

Samoa Breweries Ltd. (SBL) was established in 1978 as a joint venture between the Government of (Western) Samoa and a German brewing company, Brauhasse.

Since 1999 the company has changed ownership three times and is currently owned by Coca Cola Amatil.

American Samoa is by far the biggest export market for Vailima with the 750ml Extra Strong as the biggest local seller due to its crisp and smooth taste and high alcohol content.

SBL continues to brew Vailima Lager (4.9% alc v/v), Vailima Special Export (6.7% alc v/v) and Vailima Pure (4.9% low carb).

Occasionally, SBL releases limited edition brews including Vailima Natural, which used breadfruit flour as a partial replacement for imported barley.

Samoa Breweries Ltd. is also the exclusive distributor for Coca-Cola in Samoa.

G.H.C. Reid & Company, Ltd. says it hopes to outsell its last three years of Vailima sales with over 100,000 cases.

The company has a commanding control of over 65% of the beer market in 30L draught, 12-pack and 24-pack cases in the territory.

Company President and co-owner Oliovia C. Reid acknowledged the hard work by her “G.H.C. Reid Aiga” for their tremendous individual and concerted effort in organizing the special celebration and especially for accomplishing the company’s goals and servicing our valued customers daily with only top-notch professionalism that is unmatched.
