The Boys & Girls Club of American Samoa (BGCAS) has received a $10,000 donation from the Lealaifuaneva Peter E. Reid Charitable Foundation to support STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) and Digital Programming in the Club.

Digital programming allows for youth to learn digital skills that will serve them well in school or workforce.

In 2017, the Foundation donated $15,000, which helped establish a music studio in the Clubhouse dedicated to the memory of the late Senator and his love for music especially the ukulele.

Mrs. Mary A.T. Tulafono, BGCAS Chairman of the Board and Chief Volunteer Officer stated that: “this music studio serves as another component in developing the Arts and Technology for our youth here in the Club.”

Ms. Olivia Cecilia Reid, President of GHC Reid, Peter E. Reid Stevedoring and the Foundation and Chairman of the Reid Group of Companies, presented the donation to Mrs. Tulafono during a ceremony at the Tafuna Clubhouse on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 stating that “the Foundation will continue to support and promote STEAM initiatives and programs that will help our youth in the Territory.”

Mrs. Tulafono concluded the ceremony thanking the Lealaifuaneva Peter E. Reid Charitable Foundation for their generosity, stating: “Because of this donation, we can continue our mission in serving 150 at-risk youth daily and many more through community outreach programs by providing a safe and positive environment where they can grow and develop into caring, productive citizens and go on to have Great Futures.”

The ceremony culminated in a tour of the music studio.
