The show must go on.
The Samoan Musika Foundation, with one of the top guitarists that the territory has produced now living in the mainland, Tom Scanlan, are paying tribute to one of their brother musicians with a concert at the Tradewinds Hotel Pavilion tomorrow night.
The concert will be dedicated to Siuleo Chico Pouesi.
Chico passed away suddenly two weeks ago after collapsing while attending a Foundation meeting to discuss with Scanlan and his wife Jeanette, preparations for a concert that was to feature Scanlan.
The purpose of the concert was to help raise funds for the Foundation, one of whose aims is to build a performing arts center.
After Chico’s sudden passing, Scanlan and the Foundation decided to dedicate the concert and its proceeds for Chico’s family.
Tom Scanlan’s guitarmanship was an attracton in the once thriving night life of Pago Pago in the 1970’s to the early 1990;s before he and his family moved to California.
He has also become a good piano player, produced CD’s from his home studio and is a sought after musician for Samoan events in the US West Coast.
Tomorrow evening, Scanlan will be on stage at the Tradewinds Pavilion, playing with Chico’s children and other top names on the local music scene.
