March 8 is International Women’s Day

March 8 is celebrated around the world as the International Day of Women.

It’s an event designated by the United Nations to celebrate the achievements of women in the social, political and cultural spheres.

It also helps inspire young women and girls to realize their full potential and get into careers that have previously been the domain of men.

The Business and Professional Women of American Samoa is one of the leading organizations for women in the territory.

A past president of BPW, Judy Mulitalo says due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Gita, they will not hold their usual luncheon or dinner featuring a woman in leadership.

But they are using the media to promote International Women’s Day
