An early morning blaze in the Happy Valley area in Tafuna has burned to the ground a family homestead with about four buildings, including a furniture workshop.

The Tafuna substation said they received the call about the fire around 4 am and the fire unit from Tafuna was dispatched, and a second fire truck was sent from Fagatogo.

Relatives and neighbors say however they had been calling 911 since 2:30am when the fire started and there was no response.

One man who was at the scene said when firefighters arrived water pressure seemed to be low and this appeared to be a factor in efforts to control the blaze from spreading.

All of the occupants were out of the buildings and are safe but none of the buildings or contents , could be saved.

The homestead belonged to the family of Tulifua Tini Lam Yuen.
