Immigration camera goes kaput

People showing up at the Immigration Office today for Immigration ID cards were told to return next week.

The reason is because the camera used to take photos for the IDs is down.

An Immigration official said that when the machine was turned on this morning it was not working.

The equipment has accommodated a heavy load of photos for ID cards last week and this week when the Attorney General and the Immigration Board decided that the issuance of ID cards will be done on Wednesdays only.

The change was made so as to control the issuance of ID cards while an investigation is underway into a large number of fake ID cards which have been discovered.

Attorney General Talauega said this week that he’s given directions to designate Monday to Thursday for ID card renewal and reserve Fridays for the issuance of new ID cards.

An immigration officer said their office is not issuing any IDs until the machine is repaired.

It remains to be seen whether the Immigration Office will follow the practice of the Office of Motor Vehicles which for more than a year has been issuing receipts to those seeking renewal of expired drivers licenses or obtain licenses for the first time.
