A Chinese man who turned up at the Post Office to claim a box with Chinese passports sent from the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles was arrested and detained for a couple of days at the Territorial Correctional Facility.

There were 136 passports altogether in the box that the Chinese man picked up from the Post Office, however the packaging indicated there were 30 passports.

The box contained both new passports and old expired ones.

Reliable sources tell KHJ News that when the box was presented to customs,  agents on duty made contact with their boss , and the commissioner and homeland security director were also alerted.

The Chinese man was taken to the TCF where he was detained though the grounds for his detention are unclear.

An investigation got underway involving the AG’s Office, DPS and Homeland Security.

It’s believed that the Chinese Consulate in LA provided verification that the passports were legitimate and that the discrepancy with the number of passports and what was in the labeling was an oversight.

Our sources say the man who had been detained was then released and the people whose names were on the passports were contacted to pick them up from the AG’s Office.

Three of the Chinese citizens were discovered to have been here on 30-day permits while papers for the rest were in order.

No apologies were ever issued by ASG officials for the detention of the individual who came to the Post Office to pick up the box of passports.
