Howling winds and heavy rain kept many awake last night and the National Weather Service phone ringing off the hook.

At 5 this morning, Tropical Disturbance 19F had moved about 190 miles from Tutuila and it’s forecast to continue to move southward through today.

An active monsoonal trough extends from TD19F northwestward across the Samoan islands and extends further to the Northwest toward Papua New Guinea.

Meteorologist Elinor Lutu McMoore who was on duty last night at the National Weather Service says the high wind warning for Tutuila, Aunuu and Manu’a will be extended.

A high wind warning is issued when sustained winds of 30 to 45 miles per hour with gusts of up to 60 mph are observed or expected.

Rain will continue, heavy at times, as well as strong and gusty winds.

The monsoonal trough should be moving away by tomorrow afternoon.

The Flash Flood Watch will also remain through this afternoon and may be possibly extended until tomorrow.

For those out at sea …a gale warning remains for coastal waters of all islands and a high surf warning is also in effect for all shores.

The Emergency Operations Center reports there was a landslide in Utulei, and fallen trees blocked the road in Fogagogo, Malaeimi and Auma.

Police also reported that two solar lights at the Fagatogo malae were uprooted by the strong winds.

Residents are urged to continue monitoring weather reports and heed advice from EOC, TEMCO or police.

Please report any damages to the National Weather Service or EOC.
