Filifaatali Mike to Agriculture, Saelua, Lafaele, Motusa reappointed

Four director appointments were announced today.

Three directors from the first cabinet of the Lolo Lemanu government are returning to their departments while one is being appointed director for the first time.

The new appointee is Filifaatali Michael Fuiava who has been named Acting Director of the Department of Agriculture.

Filifaatali retired as Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety about six years ago.

He has an agricultural background having been educated at Avele Boys College and the School of Agriculture in Alafua, Samoa.

He is currently chairman of the Board of the LBJ Hospital.

Dr. Ruth Matagi-Tofiga & Keniseli LafaeleThe other director nominees are Fuiavailili Keniseli Lafaele who is designated acting director of the Department of Commerce, Catherine Saelua, acting Director of the Office of Program Planning and Budget, and Motusa Tuileama Nua who’s designated Acting Director of Health.

The governor said in the appointment memos that pending nomination and confirmation by the Legislature,  these individuals will serve in these posts “for the second term of this administration.”

The appointments are effective January 9.

Directors for about a dozen other departments and agencies have not been announced.

Some of the bigger departments still waiting for an announcement on their directors are Human Resources, Procurement, and Homeland Security.
